Fall in Western Maine

The secret is out—there is no better place to experience the fall season than in the Western Mountains of Maine. Last year, Yankee Magazine ranked the Bethel area as the second best place for leaf peeping while Down East Magazine chose the Artist’s Covered Bridge in Newry as their 2010 fall cover shot and featured an in depth story on what makes this area so special.

Our take? It starts with a spectacular setting, is enhanced by some amazing locals and business owners, and is made even better given the access to endless activities. Experience what so many are already talking about with one of many scenic drives or, set out in search of something more active and take advantage of scenic Chondola rides, zipline tours, twin zips, geocaching, hikingmountain biking and award-winning golf

Access to the Sunday River region was fortunately unaffected by Hurricane Irene. Plan your trip on our page.

Want to celebrate the season with the rest of us? Don’t forget about the many events that take place now through Halloween. Don't miss out on Fall Festival Weekend featuring the 12th Annual North American Wife Carrying Championship, 28th Annual Blue Mountain Arts and Crafts Festival and Mountain Epic Peak to Peak Challenge.

Of course, you don't have to take our word for it…
