Geocaching
|
Ready to treasure hunt with a technological twist? Geocaching is an activity that easily involves the whole family and gets people outdoors and involved in physical activity, while encouraging them to work together. Best of all, it's a great activity for any age and requires no previous experience!
Be part of this game that is played throughout the world by adventurists equipped with GPS devices. You can rent resort GPS units to use in your search to locate our eleven hidden geocache boxes with prizes. Our GPS units are simple to operate and you'll be provided with easy to follow instructions.
Sunday River’s geocache points are hidden along the resort’s 12 mile network of designated hiking terrain spanning eight mountain peaks. You'll find some caches easy to find after a short hike on easy terrain, and others much more challenging. You may access all of Sunday River’s geocache locations by hiking from South Ridge Lodge, however we recommend riding the Chondola to North Peak and beginning your geocache adventure from the Peak Lodge to
make the most of your day. You can access the mid-mountain caches easily, hike to the upper mountain caches if desired, and either ride back down or hike down and find the lower mountain caches as you go.
Geocaching equipment is available to rent out of Sunday River Sports in the South Ridge Lodge and is $15 for full day use. Sunday River Sports is open Fridays - Sundays, 10 – 4 p.m. starting June 29.
